Today Saturday 15 January, the flag of the London Rowing Club, was flown at half mast as a mark of respect and to honour the passing of the last of the club's pre-war Henley Medal winners. It is no coincidence that many successful oarsmen of his generation went on to distinguish themselves on the field of battle.
It was a great pleasure to know and work with Bill. His quiet manner belied his great capacity and intellect. His mistreatment by Whitlam was a disgrace and clouded an exemplary life of service. John
