Such a great woman of God. What an example to follow!

User avatar

Sister Bell was simply an awesome woman of God and a mentor to so many. My husband and I were members of Revival Temple from 1989-1991 and 1993-1995 (transferred to San Antonio through the military). As a couple we learned so much from the wisdom of Sister Bell about marriage, family and christian life in general. She was truly one of the women who has helped to shape my marriage and me as a women of God. I can remember many of her sayings. Her encouragement to not only women but men served to make us all want to be the best we could be for God. She was quite a fireball for Jesus!

Sister Bell was a pillar of strength and faith whose presence encouraged faithfulness in many others. She has been an outstanding inspiration to many women to finish their race in the faith. Our sympathy goes out to the Bell family at this time and also Destiny Church as we know her presence there will be missed greatly. But how happy she must be at this moment! Sandra Lee Porter, K.B.I. Alumni, 1997 Sis. Ruth, My mentor, my friend, my teacher....May the grace of God be manifest in the lives of the Bell family and may the wonderous love of our Father be indeed the everlasting arms of comfort for you all. Henry, Sunshine and Jeremiah (my family) are indebted to Sis. Ruth's wisdom as she ministered to us through KBI and through her counseling gift. We have carried on KBI here in Katy, Tex. and believe in the power of the Word to change, restore and anoint every hearer. As she said to me, "Cry out, "GRACE" to that mountain, and it will become a plain." Thank you, dear Lord for this beautiful life, this beautiful lady.

Sister Bell, what a great presence she was in my life. My name is Lisa Ruth, named after her, as she was a great presence in my families' life. She was the best teacher! I always thought she could bring the bible to life like no other. I think of her often and thank God for her and her wonderful family that has always been there for mine. "Hey, Sister Bell, say Hi to my Dad for me, Paul Bostow", I know he is rejoicing with you today". Lisa Ruth Bostow Coles, Dallas

Our prayers are with the Bell family at this time. Sis. Bell taught Jerry and I in our missions class at I.B.C. She had such a passion for winning souls and truly expressed it to all of us in the deepest way, tears and all. Looking over our notes from her class, she had us find missionary scriptures in each book of the Bible and oh, yes, remember the 4 M's of missions. She was always quoting Ps. 2:8.....Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance. What a privilege it was to sit under her teaching and glean from her a heart for missions. My prayers and love to the entire Bell family. I know the heavens rejoiced when Sister Bell entered the Kingdom into the arms of our loving Father!!! Sister Bell, what a pillar of faith!! Before I was saved I knew the message of the New Testament but always shied away from studying the Bible, especially the Old Testament because it just seemed too difficult to understand. Boy, did I have a pleasant rude awakening when I attended KBI classes with Sister Bell!!! Studying the Old Testament with Sister Bell is one of my fondest merories among many. I was blessed to be one among many who experienced the joy and excitement as the Old Testament came alive through Sister's Bell 's anointing. It was not unusual for her to let out a "Zooto" or a "Fura-fura" which always stirred up the Holy Spirit in me and brought forth the desire to learn more and I grew to love the OT. Her lessons on not compromising our faith and belief in God have taken me into a deeper relationship with God. What joy!!! I will miss Sister Bell but find comfort knowing that her legacy will continue. Glory to GOD!!!

I still quote the verses Sister Bell had us say each day of class. She was a pillar in my life and a hero of the faith to me. I remember her being very human, but when she taught, she took on a radiance that was like an angel. I feel very blessed and honored to have been called to sit under her teaching as well as Bro. Bell's. Her books have also been inspirational. I am amazed after maybe 2 years that I was led to open the Destiny Church web site at this time. God works in mysterious ways. Thank you Ruth Bell for all your years of faithful ministry. Liz Chalker, Wisconsin

1951, first visit to Revival Temple, home away from home for Mary & Ralph Watson-moving to Texas at Adaise(sp)-"Austin Cutstone" building-Street witnessing, Christmas caroling led by Ruth & John Bell-Mary & Ruth sharing preparation for their firstborns-families named Whetstone, Hammet, Thompson, Pedigo, Newman, many more-praying for revival-teaching Jr. Boys, College Class-youth ministry-always with the strong leadership from the Bells-workdays on the new building-fellowship with wonderful friends. Ruth & John Bell were central to the life of this vibrant congregation which brought the Living Christ into daily life for all of us. We will always remember Ruth's positive outlook, her fervent Christian faith, her beautiful witness, her dedicated talents such as playing the accordian for street witnessing, leading the radio ministry and a loving smiling face that always reflected Jesus, even in the midst of difficulties and challenges. Ruth & John modeled the Christian family and the life of ministry which has not been easy to emulate but has been our aim. The motto of Revival Temple-"Anchored to the Rock-Geared to the Times" reflectes such a lasting memory of the philosophy for ministry of this truly unforgetable team of faithful disciples. Thanks be to God for letting us share their lives, if only four years! With Christ's Love, Ralph Watson,(USAF1951-1955, UMC Pastor 1957-1994).

Moving to San Antonio after the tragic end of a 35-year marriage, I was praying every night for God to take my life. I no longer wanted to live. Blindly looking through the phone book for a church, I got dressed in between panic attacks and arrived in time for the Sunday evening altar call. After Sister Bell and Minerva Bernal took pity on this complete stranger and prayed for her, Sister Bell looked me straight in the eye and declared with more spiritual authority than I'd ever heard anyone speak, "Daughter, you shall live and not die!" This alien in a strange land became certain of only one thing that night - that terror and loneliness had met its match in Ruth Bell. I had been lovingly confronted by a great woman, the only one I had ever known. Years of sitting under Sister Bell's teaching in Sunday School and KBI, taking ministry trips with her, leading a small group in the glorious atmosphere of her home, being a member of "the lunch bunch" of those privileged to have lunch with her every Sunday after Pastor John Bell went to be with the Lord...many years of increasing awe, wonder, gratitude and joy in knowing Ruth Bell. I miss her more than words can say - just wish I could have been there to see her beautiful face when her Jesus welcomed her home.

Ruth Coote Bell was in blessing in our lives. We only knew her a short while when we were attending the Kings Bible Institute. She was a woman of honor and integrety. I remember while we were given the opportunity to preach in one of her classes that she gigged me for putting my hand in my pocket while preaching and that was a no, no for sister bell. That was the respect and love that she had for the Lord and I am truly grateful to the Lord for what she inparted in me and my wife's life. We will miss Sister Bell you but we will see each other again in glory.

As I sit and reflect on Ruth Bell my dear pastor for so many years I am reminded of her love for childen and hunger to see every child know God and to have them live a life of power, victory and truth. The life of my family was forever changed when she and Pastor John Bell dressed in a clown suit went down our neighborhood inviting everyone to VBS. My sister attended the outreach on Texas avenue and we have been a part of this amazing church for over 30 years. She invested her time, love, and smile with my family. She never treated us as just children but as a part of her family. Her deep convictions and way of life was the greatest example of a mighty woman of God I have ever seen or known. I praise God for her life as she has forever changed mine and taught me how to serve, love and speak his truth into the lives of every person he brings my way.

What a legacy she left behind. It was pure joy to meet with her during mission conference time every year. Well said Apostle Paul, "This is the only race worth running. I've run hard right to the finish, believed all the way." In prayer for all the grieving family. Babu John

Ruth Coote Bell was singular in purpose. I knew her from the time she was a young wife and mother. She never veered from her heartfelt convictions no matter what may have been changing around her. I was team teacher with her in Sunday School and it was a learning experience for me too. She was open and honest and loving and down to eath. But most of all she loved her Lord and served Him. Her influence is far reaching. "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate." Prov. 31: 29-31

I will never forget singing "To the Regions Beyond" during every Missions Class she taught at International Bible College. She had us weeping for the lost every class. We also shouted Psalm 2:8 every class "Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession." We were never allowed to say it with complacency - we had to say it with urgency! She knew how to impart the heartbeat of God for the lost "Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature!". Let's all remember her legacy and "Go to the Regions Beyond!"
