A year has passed and today is a hard one. We miss you and hope you enjoyed the garden walk. Love

Already a year, and as each day passes I miss you even more. My mother, my friend, there is no way to fill the gap. Rest well. I love you. Wendy.

On 22 Jan, the death occurred of Mrs. Mary Kirk Thomas, aged 81 and one of the longest residents of St Ives. Mary and her family moved into the Woodbury Rd district of St Ives in 1956 from the Armidale district of northern NSW, to a fibro cottage surrounded by market gardens growing flowers and vegetables. She lived there for the rest of her life. When she arrived there was no postal service, only a P.O.Box. Access to the house was by a dirt track from Douglas St., The then Brigidine Convent, was occupied by nuns in black habits who took their afternoon walks past her home. Mary and her family built huge bonfires in the disused quarry (now Athena Ave) to celebrate Empire Day. It was there she saw the first Sputnic satellite and fought bushfires. Her children

23 February 2009 Happy Birthday Mum, we all miss you so much and your love. Today we will take a walk in the bush and remember you. all our love, Peter and Marie

Over eighty years her show went on, alas it won't continue; We're staggered by her energy, emboldened by the retinue; Of friends and family kept in touch, together we can win; With women like our Mary Kirk, our Matriarch of Kin!" Sadly missed by Peter, Marie and Jai, but with magnificent MEMORIES"

Grandma was beautiful. Such a loving person, always with a kind word and a comforting smile when it was most needed. She was also a special lesson in compassion and understanding to me. Also to animals, the underprivileged, the aged and frail. During her recent visit to Florida, we had the chance to have dinner and my new wife Amy was so excited to meet her. Amy was touched in the short time that they had together. What a presence, such a lady. She will be missed by all the grandchildren. Alex, Tim, Chris, Rebecca, Georgina and myself.
