Laurie roomed with me and another pal when he lived in New Haven, CT, studying at Yale, in his twenties. It was here that he wrote "The Wife Specialist" (of which I believe I still have a carbon copy of the original manuscript,) and began work on "A Collapsible Man". I have just learned of his death, and it will be my sad duty to pass the news on to his many friends here who still remember and talk about him. It was my great good fortune to have been given two of his books this past Christmas; now they mean more than ever. Laurie was a wonderful friend and a fine man, and it saddens me deeply to know that this world is no longer brightened by his gentle laughter.

A kind and generous man , certainly encouraged me as a very timid teenager who loved literature

In loving memory of my dear and cherished friend
