My dear wife, Chir, had stomach cancer and spent ten days in early September receiving palliative care in ward nine of Peter Mac. Jim Stynes was in the room next to hers, and, as I spent ten hours with her every day , I occasionally saw Jim relaxing in the lounge. I wanted to respect his privacy, but now I wish I had greeted him and said something. My wife passed on 5 months ago, and like him, was a wonderful person and too young to leave us. My deepest sympathy to his wife and family. I share in your grief. I hope you will be comforted by the love you shared. That is something that will never die. You will feel its presence within you always.

I had the privilege of seeing Jimmy play in his final year with Melbourne in 1998, even though he was at the end of his career, it was truly inspiring and it made me proud to see an Irishman who was so revered in another country. A true gentleman and legend.

A great great man who will live on in the memories of Aussies and Irish alike. A fantastic Gaelic footballer here in Dublin and legend in Aussie rules. Thank you to Austrailia for the love and care you gave to him and his family.

I first met Jim at my daughter's 4th birthday party at a play centre in Camberwell. My daughter Zoe had invited his daughter to her party and I did not put ttwo and two together with the surname. The party began at 10am and in walked Big Jim - I was in awe of him when he recorded the most consecutive games in AFL but also when he sat down next to me and I asked him if he wanted a beer - he said ' why not - it's midday somewhere'. Love to Jims family - Cameron and Zoe Matthewson

Although the game and Melbun will miss a great man, think the loss for his family is ever bigger. My thoughts and sympathy are with the family. We are very grateful you were able to share Jim with us. RIP JIM
