My name is Joe Gibbins, my mother was Jims sister(Doreen Portz) and Jim, or uncle Jim as he was known in our house left Hull well before I was born, but he was always talked about and never far from his families thoughts. When I used to visit my grandma (Jims mother Alice) she would always get the Photos out and show me his family and talk about her son with Pride. Even though she missed her son, you could see she was happy that he had made a wonderful life for himself and his family. When I was a young kid I remember Jim coming back to his home town for the 1st time, I don’t remember much except that everyone was really happy while he and his family where hear. My lasting memory of Uncle Jim was when he came over, which turned out to be his last time, when we ate together. That was not what I remember most but the gift he gave me will last forever in my mind. I am a trade unionist and am lucky enough to do it full time for my job. Jim gave me a T shirt that evening and I still have it now. It’s the best T shirt I have ever had and now it will never be toped. The T shirt was a commemorative strike T shirt. It was commemorating the Wharfies strike in the 80s. Jim told me a story on how they had given him the T shirt on one of his travels. It’s a very special T-shirt and I will care for it for the rest of my life with pride. Jim will always be remembered fondly in our home. You’re Nephew, Joseph Gibbins
