Very sorry to hear this, condolences from all his friends and former colleagues at Aldiscon.
Ian and myself have crossed paths a few times in our working and personal lives, and more recently over a few beers at the Australian. It was always a great pleasure to catch up with Ian, there was always a new story, enthusiasm for new technology, his honest appraisal of people and management was legendary, adventures with woodwork and the teenagers at Tafe environment, predicting the Irish real estate collapse (advise I should have taken) and his unique take on events was always entertaining. I have a lot of respect for Ian and he will be sadly missed. Deepest condolences to Lisa, James and Cameron. Yohan and Family
Ian was a lovely man, I worked with him for a couple of years in Sydney and we became friends. My first recollection is his enthusiasm for beer and the film'The Matrix then Glasgow and the Yorkshire Dales. Very sad to hear the news. All the best Lisa.
Mate... the ceremony captured it well today. May you rest in peace...
I worked with Ian for 3 years and as we were rarely on the same projects our interactions were mainly social – coffees, lunch and the occasional beer. I came to look forward to our coffees because of the intelligence, wit and depth of Ian’s conversation. We discussed war, peace, politics, work, growing up in Britain, economics and indeed almost everything under the sun – topics both heavy and light. Some of our interactions were what might be described as “auld Scotland v England banter”, and one day, after I had seen Scotland lose 29-0 to the All Blacks at rugby, I took a picture of the scoreboard and sent it as an MMS to Ian. That was a big mistake on my part... never provoke a messaging engineer when he knows your phone number ;-) Ian will be sorely missed, he was an old school good guy. My sincere condolences to the whole family. RIP Ian, Tim B
I worked in the same office, rather than on the same projects, as Ian for 3 years, so our interactions were mainly over coffee, lunch or a social beer. At the time I found myself looking forward to our coffee breaks for his humour, intelligence, great conversation and what you might just call 'banter', some of which was based on the auld England v Scotland rivalries. I had a weekend away at the rugby once and saw Scotland loose 29-0 to the All Blacks, so I thought it would be funny to take a picture of the scoreboard at the end of the game and send an MMS to Ian. Big mistake on my part... never start a messaging 'war' with a messaging engineer!! Ian was an old school good guy, and will be missed be everyone who knew him. I am so sorry he has gone and I send my heartfelt condolences to the family. Tim B
I worked closely with Ian over the past couple of years at Ericsson. He used to come over to my desk for a chat. We'd talk about family, work and life after Ericsson. We last spoke just 3 months ago. At all employee meetings, Ian was never afraid to speak up loudly and ask managers direct and confronting questions. Perhaps that is a Scottish thing? I'll have a shot of whiskey tonight for you Ian. Ken.
As the preschool teacher of both James and Cameron I knew Ian as a dedicated and devoted father. Always quick with a smile and to share a story and a laugh. He was a wonderful personality and a kind, loving man. He will be sorely missed by the Lane Cove community. The whole centre is deeply saddened by the loss of Ian and send all our love, prayers and warm wishes to Lisa and the boys. Marnie Massingham Preschool Team Leader Kindy Cove Child Care Centre
Although he probably wouldn't have thought of himself so, I learned a lot from Ian as a pimply-faced youth starting his first real job with Logica Aldiscon straight out of university. His desert-dry wit and vast knowledge of Unix, telecoms, and how to do a technical job were something of a role model.
The sudden passing of Ian has been a shock to us all. Ian was kind, considerate and supportive. He was devoted to the happiness of his family who will miss a special dad and a loving husband. Ian was a supportive friend to every member of our family. Ian was a good man with a good heart. Ian, you will be sorely missed by all those that knew you. Finally we send our deepest condolences to Lisa, Cameron and James. From Martin, Taryn, Jake and Ella
