I will always remember Grant for his wicked sense of humour. Whenever, I needed help on my computer (sadly, often!), Grant always assisted in a professional way but with a twist of cheeky humour tossed in ! He was also very proud of Max and Ellen and kept us all uptodate with their latest achievements. He also adored Cathy and appreciated all she sacrificed for him. He never complained about his situation - a good reminder to the rest of us to count our blessings and have the same wonderful spirit of Grant! lots of love to all the family - Grant was one very special person and we will dearly miss him at work. This is my third attempt at trying to write something, but there are no words that can truly say how we really feel. We have been neighbours for almost 18 years. 18 years of seeing you sitting out the front watching the world go by. 18 years of watching your children (and the rest of the children in the street) grow up so fast, playing, laughing, kicking the ball around. 18 years of driving by and giving you a wave as we go about our daily lives. 18 years of knowing that you are just there sitting out in the sun, ready for a chat....I cant imagine what it is going to be like now... I hate to even think about it. 18 years of habits that will be hard to break. I dont think I will ever stop looking over at your place, expecting to see you sitting there in the driveway. It will be forever different..... To Cathy, Ellen and Max we hope to continue our neighbourly friendship and look forward to making 'new habits'. God Bless you all. From all of us at 10 Alan Street

Grant you will always be an inspiration to so many people, I never saw you without a smile, you always came across to me with a positive outlook in life. It was a pleasure to have been in your company while working at the State Sports Centre. You will never be forgotten My condolences to the Harper Family May you rest in peace John Suraci

A lot of us will no doubt recall at the time of this unfortunate accident, many of us paid visits to Grant at Royal North Shore Hospital-friends, family, players, mates…..where from his bedside he helped to re-design his house to accommodate his restrictions….during every visit and even until his passing, I can’t recall Grant ever being vindictive or thought he was a victim of the incident which changed his life and Cathy’s….he always got ‘on with the job’ no matter what it was……he didn’t complain even when he had trouble getting a new wheelchair, it just made him more determined….always with a smile on his face and a good word to say to anyone who would listen…..many a time I drove passed his house and there was Grant on the front driveway area, his face smeared with sun block to protect him, holding court with anyone who walked past or who stopped to chat…….each time I stopped and each time it was the same……….smiling face, all good with the world and a man who could speak with intelligence on many subjects, especially sport…….it would be remiss of anyone in speaking of Grant, not to also make comment of his lovely and devoted wife-Cathy….what a lady !!!!!! I’m not sure if there is sufficient or appropriate words to correctly describe this lady in terms of her love for Grant, her devotion, unselfishness and sheer courage….and like Grant, always with a smile on her face…….there may have been quiet personal moments when it did show, but none that I ever saw or witnessed……. He dedicated himself to living as ‘normal’ a life as possible…..continued to work, fathered two lovely children (both of whom are an absolute credit to he and Cath) and whenever possible turned up at social events and again, always held court with whomever who wished to chat with him….and always with a smile…….he didn’t mind a beer either but with Cathy’s ever watchful eye, he had to be somewhat ‘restrained’……… As far as I knew he didn’t see his accident as a negative…….if there is one thing about the many traits Grant possessed that I’ll remember , it’s his always present smile which went along with his extraordinarily good nature…….many of us could learn a great deal from our time spent with this humble person of exceptional values and stature……traits replicated, echoed and immensely possessed by his wife and family……. Another very good man down…… Nugget

I've made plently of errors in my life but there were 2 things I did that were always special to me. They were to ask Rhonda Coombs to marry me and asking Grant to be our best man. Grant always was and still is the best man. I sit here having a beer and thinking back on our lives and start to put a few things together. No matter a friend or family members age Grant always had a fantastic way of having a conversation, always putting his point forward in a way that you could only agree with. He is a gentlerman and treated everyone with respect, even if you were wrong. When we were at school at De La Salle Ashfield we got into our share of trouble (as you know Mr & Mrs H) but for some reason Grant always escaped punishment, how I still don't know. He was also a great darts player as a young lass from NZ found out as the dart hit her bum - but that's another story. I look forward to having a beer when I get there - I know you'll be there to meet me. You are my best mate, my sons Godfather and my guide. You'll always be in my heart and I'll never forget my friend.

I've led a life with many mistakes but there were 2 decisions I made that I'll be forever proud. They were to ask Rhonda Coombs to marry me and asking Grant to be our Best Man. He's been the best man since then. Grant literally lived for his family and friends, enjoying every minute he spent with them. Regardless of age Grant always enjoyed a conversation and always expressed opinions that you couldn't argue with. Grant always had a sense of humour that was a little wicked but always laughed his way out of situations. We got ourselves in some embarrasing situation at de La Salle Ashfield, I always copped it and Grant always walked away as clean as a whistle. I never did work out how he always managed to escape any punishment. Grant you'll always be my best friend, my mate, my inspiration and now my guide. You will live forever in my heart. I look foward to a beer when I meet you there.
