My deepest thoughts of comfort, support, and strength go out to Emil's wife Jane and children as well as Emil's brother Robert during this time of loss. I was devastated to hear the news of Emil's sudden passing. A huge loss to the medical profession as well as to society in general. Emil was one in a billion, a gifted surgeon a man of incredible dedication, knowledge, skill and to top it off a great sense of humour. I was so fortunate to have been a patient of Emil's since 2003. In 2003 Emil performed some massive, literally, life saving spinal surgery which allowed me to walk and talk again. I could not thank him enough, and he humbly replied, I am just doing my job. Wow what a man eh! I can not speak highly enough of Emil. Over the years of being a patient I not only regard Emil as my surgeon, but also as a friend, my lifesaver, my hero. We have shared many a joke during my hospital stays. I will forever owe my life to you Emil, You will always be in my memories. Be forever at peace my friend. Sara, Bill and Pam Moneypenny

So sad to have lost a great Dr. Emil was a caring, thoughtful dr, and one of a kind. Taken too soon.

I first remember meeting Emil at Nunawading Primary school around 1965, and also remember his cheeky grin. I remember him from Mitcham High and how he aspired to be a Doctor. I remember chatting to him at a reunion and how he said he wanted to be a Neurosurgeon. In 1990 as the Neuro Registrar at RMH he assisted Professor Andrew Kaye to remove a tumour from my brain. He was a dedicated and caring Doctor who I know will sadly missed.

In 1997 you operated on me in Melbourne (neurosurgery AVM) and you gave me back my life - thank you Emil! In 2006 I visited you and your family in Perth, you were so warm and kind to invite us to your home - thank you Emil! You truly gave me a second chance in life. And I am ever so thankful to you, for today for I can walk, talk, think and the greatest gift, having a child in 2004. No words can describe the sadness I feel. Emil, you are greatly missed. My deepest sympathy to Jane & children and family. Always in thoughts & prayers Marlene Lee - Singapore

I last saw Emil at his house in 2006 where we had lunch and a few reds overlooking the River. The house was magnificent and he leaves behind a perfect life with a loving wife and three children. He will be sadly missed by many people who came across his cheeky grin behind the specticles or to watch him run across the Melbourne Uni Pavy Oval just after a 15-19 hour shift as an intern. I recall a number of players amazed at his dedication and in particular, placing his career at risk given the importance of his surgeons hands. Nick Tunbridge - Uni Blacks Past Player

Emil was a great help to our family during my fathers illness (glioblastoma) and therefore frequent visits to RMH in 1985-1986. Therefore I am saddened to hear of his passing and offer my condolences to family and friends during this time
