Janet (later known as Sasha) taught me painting in Paris during 1977-1980. And since she returned to Australia she visited me in Canberra in early 1990s and had a memorable time. She was a beautiful woman in every sense and I enjoyed much in learning art from her. I do wonder what happened to her magnificient portrait of Joan Sutherland as she was carrying the painting when she visited me. I will treasure the memories and a few paintings of Janet.

I met a woman today who reminded me of Sasha so I googled her and found this...So sad to hear of her passing. The last time I saw Sasha she was living in Noosa and we shared some lovely times. She was a generous, warm, cultured and very interesting soul. I will cherish the painting she gave me...it lives on my mantle. Rest in peace Sasha !! Paola Melbourne

Rest in Peace Janet. I have not seen you since I was very young and used to stay with my grandfather Harry Alderson and my Auntie Ada in Melbourne. You gave me a beautiful doll from your collection. I still have a small painting of yours that you painted as a child and photos of your mother Auntie Vi when she was a young schoolgirl. Could Joel Kusabs contact me if possible as I think this is Doug's daughter and I remember meeting her once at my Pa's place in West Heidelberg. Janet there will be some beautiful new clouds painted in the sky nowthat you are there.

I only knew Alexandra for a very, very short time last year and that was via telephone calls.I am writing a Biography on the English actor Eric Porter and knew that she had painted his portrait in the 70s. Alexandra was so kind to me and was very forthcoming about her association with Eric.We were going to meet up in London this year and I was to have taken to Eric's "grave" In Highgate Woods.I found her to be a warm, caring human being and I am saddened by her death.

I met Janet in Paris in 1978 when we lived in the same street rue de Boulainvilliers & I accidently got a postcard send to her. Thank you Janet for many happy & interesting hours - where you told me about painting & colours. I was just a young au pair but you took me to exhibitions at the Australian embassy & out to see Paris from an artists view . I treasure those memories. I got back in contact wit Janet a couple of years ago but only for a couple of letters. Always ♥ Hanne

My parents knew Janet, as she was known then, in Madrid in the 1960s. My brother Simon and I sat for a portrait commissioned by our parents, Francis and Elizabeth. Janet , then exclusively painting abstracts, made an exception for friends. I gather she went on to specialise in portraits of better known people ! Following my mother's very recent death, the portrait is now in our dining room. Two other abstracts remain in the family. I remember Janet, childless, as very patient with her 9 and 13 year old sitters. Tim Sedgwick-Jell Salisbury UK

Dear Sasha, what a wonderful life you lived, a true inspiration to other women, and what wonderful memories you have left with your many many friends, who were lucky enough to know you. Will miss your calls and our chats about our love for our animals. So great to hear Czar and the pusses are being lovingly cared for. RIP, my dear friend.

Sasha and I were friends for over 40 years - England, Noosa, Spain, France and over the past couple of years we even lived in the same rue Sainte Romain in Rouen where we shared more exceptional memories. I am trying to find out where her ashes were deposited and where her albums and personal belongings are. I have contacted by numerous emails her helper Bruce M Rower in Bordeux but he hasn't deigned to reply. He hasn't given me his address. I was ill (Lyme disease) in Madrid when I heard of Sasha's startling and totally unexpected death and of the service that was held in the cathedral. I sent violets. I know Zaar is all right but Belle and Tinker were sent to an animal refuge. But I'm also anxious to know what happened to my many things that I left in her care and would like to recuperate. I have asked Bruce these questions and he hasn't answered. Sasha would be very upset about this. Can anyone help me? Cliclac7@yahoo.com.

Just a little note to tell you, Alexandra (I've never met), and tell your friends and your family that your loved dog "Tsar" seems to feel good in our place. We are living in the same area of Rouen (rue de la république) and Tsar is lovely with the children (Lalla and Melchior, 12 and 8), the children are lovely to him too. We all hope you can see or feel it however and wherever you are now. Good luck through the sky road. and sorry for my awful english! Best thoughts to you all, Beatrice

Dear Beatrice. It is so comforting to know that Tsar has found someone to love him as much as Sasha did. She adored Tsar. I do hope her cats Bella (who I bred) and Tinker are just as happy. I believe they are. Rest In Peace, dearest Sasha. Jenny

I live with your paintings every day and how truly lucky I am. If anyone knows how to add an image on this website I would put up one of the paintings which says so much about her work.
